Birmingham. He is survived by his brother- and sister-in-law, Dr. Tee Hansford
Hiett and Monterey Kirby Hiett; his nieces Lynne Monterey Hutton, Deborah Hiett
(Matthew) Valenti, Kathy McDonald (Norman) Luck; and his nephew John
(Helen) McDonald. He is pre-deceased by his wife of 58 years, Margaret Jean
McDonald, and his brother, John Reginald McDonald.
Jack graduated from Auburn University in 1952 with a degree in Architecture, and
was a Life Member of the Auburn Alumni Association. After college, he served as
a Sergeant in the Army until his discharge in 1954. He worked for the architecture
firm of TurnerBatson until he began his own practice in 1972. He was a member of
the American Institute of Architects from 1972 to 1992.
An avid traveler, Jack and his wife enjoyed visits to Europe, Asia, Canada, the
United Kingdom, and Central and South America, as well as spending time in the
vacation home in Panama City Beach, FL that he designed and built. A lifelong
Methodist and most recently a member of Canterbury Methodist Church, Jack
loved painting, sculpture, woodwork, gardening, Scottie dogs, and the Auburn
Tigers. His gift of storytelling will be missed by all who loved him.
A private service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Big
