November 20, 2012. She was born in Chase City, Virginia on March 15, 1920. She was a graduate of Randolph-Macon College. After College, she was a teacher of English. Prudy met her future husband, Rud in Virginia. They were married in 1943 during the War. She was a life-long member of the St. Mary's-on-the-Highlands Episcopal Church where she served on many volunteer positions over the years.
She was a member of The Board of Gateway Social Services, The Junior League Club Of Birmingham and the Garden Club Of Birmingham. She will always be remembered for her passion, enthusiasm, compassion, generosity, and loyal friendship. She was especially fond of cultivating friendships with and helping those who were less fortunate than her. She enjoyed gardening, birding, volunteering, reading and spending time with her children, grandchildren and husband and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Olin Willis (Mildred); her brother, Charles Willis; her son, Rutherford Nance Yeates, Jr. (Alice Dawes); She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Rutherford “Rud” Nance Yeates, her daughter, Elizabeth “Betsy” Yeates Coxe; her son, Charles Willis Yeates (Elizabeth Shaum), grandsons: Richard Badham Coxe, Willis Jesse Yeates, Rutherford Nance Yeates lll; granddaughters: Elizabeth Coxe Hubbard, Melissa Shaum Yeates, Whitley Seymour Yeates.
In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to St. Mary's-on-the-Highlands Episcopal Church. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Mary's-on-the-Highlands Episcopal Church in Birmingham at 1:00 pm, Friday, November 23, 2012..
