Dottie was born on December 5, 1935 to the late Julian and Dorothy Jenkins. She grew up in Tifton, Georgia and graduated from Huntington College.
Dottie married Richard Cockfield in 1965 and devoted herself to her husband and two daughters Chris and Anne and their life in their Vestavia neighborhood.
Dottie was an active member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church for 50 years. She volunteered in many roles at Dawson, but her passion was for the elderly, shut-in women she visited for years through the church’s Homebound Ministry. She also served as a Stephen Minister. Dottie was known by all as a kind, empathic soul and prayer warrior who treasured her profound relationship with Jesus.
Dottie and Richard enjoyed many weekends at Lake Martin with their children and grandchildren. After Richard’s death in 2018, Dottie moved to Atlanta to be closer to her children.
Dottie is survived by her sister Jan Parker, children Chris Shull (Mark) and Anne Griffith, and her grandchildren Madeline, Jackson, Olivia, Cooper, and Sophie.
The family and close friends will celebrate her life with a graveside service and burial on Thursday, April 20 at 1:15pm at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL.
