Mary Christine McAllister, age 98, died on April 27, 2022. After graduating from Tuscaloosa High School and the University of Alabama with honors, she worked as secretary to the Dean of the School of Commerce until she moved to Birmingham. She received her professional teacher's certificate from Samford University. She taught in the Business Ed Dept at Phillips High School and become head of the dept. After retiring from Phillips HS she worked as secretary at Alabama Power Co then volunteered at Baptist Montclair Hospital.
Christine loved her children. Before they went to school, she took them with her everywhere she went and taught them to love the Lord.
Christine has always been active in church. She has held leadership positions in Sunday School, Discipleship Training, WMU, music and various committees. She worked with the Vietnamese teaching them English as a second language, leading their assembly programs and playing the piano in their worship services. She taught reading to the elderly students.
After her husband died, Christine moved to St. Martin in the Pines. She rode the bus to Mountain Brook Baptist Church, was president of the Sunday School class for 2 years, then was elected treasurer and held that position until her death.
Christine was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Evelyn Petersen, her husband Charles McAllister, and sons John and Robert McAllister. She is survived by her son Harry McAllister (Cheryl) and daughter Marianne Montalbano (Mike), grandchildren Lance Montalbano (Kristin), Shelly Statton (Nathan), Tommy McAllister (Jessica), Robert McAllister (Megan), Kelly Avigliano (Brett), and 13 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 6, 2022 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm with a service to follow in the chapel at Ridout's Valley Funeral Home in Homewood. A private family interment will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery.
Memorials can be made to Mountain Brook Baptist Church or Saint Martin in the Pines.
