Catherine 'Lucille' Ruth Quinn, was born to Katherine Haggerty and Walter Raymond Ruth, December 9th, 1926. She had one older brother, Harold Ruth, whom she was very close to. Catherine grew up in New York, then moved to Pennsylvania during the depression, and later moved back to New York where she worked for the Telephone Company as a young adult. She was introduced to the young handsome, James Carl Quinn in 1946 and fell 'head-over-heels' in love. Four months later they were married in February 1947, and moved into a room, across the street from a local Chinese restaurant, where they ate 3 meals a day for the next year. From here they moved in with family to save money, and then purchased their first home in New York. While living there, the loving couple, was blessed with three children: Tommy, Kathy and Carol.
Later in 1955, they moved to Miami, bought their first South Florida house and started a new lifestyle. In Miami, the happy family was blessed with two more children, Tim and Bob. They loved living in the south, but did return to New York almost annually for vacationing with family. The family was very involved with St. Michael's Catholic Church and private school. Catherine continued to work with the phone company, here in Florida. She also found time to be a Leader in the Dade County 4-H Clubs for many years. Another one of her dedications was the Dade County Youth Fair, where Catherine volunteered for years and years. She went from being an assistant to being the Superintendent of the Student Exhibit/ Needlecraft Department.
Catherine and James moved to Tamarac, Florida in the 1990. Their home in Tamarac is where the grandkids have sweet memories.... walking to the donut shop; Christmas Day, our very own Santa; the Easter Egg hunts; the family dinners; the card games; the trips to the mall and the dollar store; memories that will last a life time.
In 2007 Catherine and James celebrated their 60th Anniversary, with all their family in attendance.
Due to health reasons, the happy couple moved into Covenant Village, Plantation. Florida in January 2008. This is where they both resided. They were happy with their new home there, they considered these friends their new family. Catherine and Jim were involved in every event that took place. The two of them were always part of the party, card games, or any other adventure that took place.
Catherine's greatest love in life was her family. Catherine loved her husband Jim, her children, dear grandchildren and her precious great grandchildren.
Catherine also cherished her numerous friends, both old and new. Catherine was truly a blessing to everyone she met. What a gift for us to have shared all these years together. She will be greatly missed by all.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 - 8
A Time for Everything
3 There is a special time for everything. There is a time for everything that happens under heaven. 2 There is a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pick what is planted. 3 There is a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up. 4 There is a time to cry, and a time to laugh; a time to have sorrow, and a time to dance. 5 There is a time to throw stones, and a time to gather stones; a time to kiss, and a time to turn from kissing. 6 There is a time to try to find, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to throw away. 7 There is a time to tear apart, and a time to sew together; a time to be quiet, and a time to speak. 8 There is a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.
**These verses hung on the wall next to Catherine's bed at Covenant Village Care Center.
