Robin graduated from Northridge High School in Middlebury, Indiana, Class of 1976. She married her high school sweetheart, Jake Schwartz, in the summer of 1977. Robin and Jake enjoyed many adventures as newlyweds. She was a brave woman who was always up for challenging herself with activities which ranged from completing 5000 piece puzzles to cliff diving in Arkansas. Robin and Jake celebrated 45 years of marriage in August. They were best friends who did almost everything together, working in their yard, going for long bicycle rides, kayaking and road trips to our beautiful National Parks.
Robin and Jake settled in Holland in 1989 and chose to raise their two daughters there. Robin was very involved with her children’s school and her church, Fellowship Reformed, as an avid volunteer. Her creativity was evident in the many projects she undertook - murals, banners, costumes, quilts and baked goods, to name a few. Robin began baking in high school and perfected many recipes, but is best known for her incredible fruit pies. She also enjoyed making applesauce each fall with a few of her dear friends. Robin remained a supportive mother to her two daughters into adulthood and they both considered her to be one of their best friends.
Robin is remembered for her kind spirit, sense of humor, friendly demeanor and joyful smile. She was very welcoming to all, known for hosting get-togethers and even opening her home to family and friends who would need a temporary place to live. Robin’s joy remained evident even as her battle with early onset atypical Alzheimer’s progressed. She continued to place her trust in her God and never complained.
Robin is survived by her husband, daughters, mother, sisters and grandson, and will be missed by many. A celebration of Robin’s life will be held in the coming month.
To God be the glory.
