Kathy was born in Holland, Michigan on August 26, 1952, to MaryLou Schaap and Duane Groendal. Kathy was raised by her Mother MaryLou and Father Wesley Oudemolen.
Kathy worked as the General Manager for Admiral Gas Stations, both Holland and Zeeland, for many years until her calling came to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Working for Tendercare, The Laurels, Resthaven, and most recently Medilodge of Holland, Kathy found her joy in helping her patients and was always there to advocate for them. Kathy loved animals, and was known for having beautiful dogs, especially her Chow-Chows. She loved shopping and collecting for herself, but always found happiness in being able to give to others and was also known for giving the best gifts! Kathy loved going out to the movies and seeing shows with her niece Amber and eating Steak with Lobster dinners at Red Lobster whenever she could, but in the end, her favorite food was a Wendy’s Frosty, and the candy Amber would bring her from the Peanut Store Downtown Holland.
After her cancer diagnosis in December 2023, she began her cancer treatment journey with her niece Shawna by her side. During those 10 months Kathy fought a silent battle, while continuing to work full time as a CNA at Medilodge, until she was admitted to Holland Hospital and was no longer able to work. During her final month, Kathy was grateful to be cared for by her Medilodge family. She enjoyed her visits with co-worker friends, and her nieces Shawna and Amber, but especially loved when her niece Shawna brought her foster puppy Tonka along for the visit. Kathy fought a valiant fight and passed peacefully with her niece Shawna holding her hand.
Kathy is survived by her brothers, Tim (Terese) Oudemolen of Muskegon, Tim's children; Heather (Kyle) Applegate, Alycia Oudemolen, and Tristen Oudemolen. Todd (Teri) Oudemolen of Kalamazoo, Todd's children; Joshua (Heather) Dyke, Jesika (Eric) Lee, Erik (Nicole) Oudemolen, Shaelyn (John) Mellstead. And her beloved nieces, Shawna Groendal and Amber (Aaron) Tejeda-Nier, both of Holland.
Kathy was preceded in death by her Mother, MaryLou Oudemolen (Schaap), her Father, Wesley Oudemolen, and her sister, Sherryl Tejeda (Groendal).
