We just learned of Jim’s passing.  It seems like yesterday when we walked the halls of our high school.  Jim was leader, a gifted athlete, and a positive influence in our school community.  I still remember  facing his pitching in a practice baseball game.  He threw a very deceptive curve ball.  Jim always encouraged others to do their best in whatever sport they competed in.  Our condolences to Mary and the children.

Mary, sorry to hear about Jim’s passing. Even though we sometimes wouldn’t see each other for years, when we did meet it was like no time had passed.  Jim was my hero in school.  He was the best natural athlete we had.  Baseball in the summer, basketball in the driveways, football in the streets, all in the dark. Then moving on to play all the highschool sports.  Such good times, great memories, we will all miss you Jim.

We are so sad to hear of Jim's passing. I remember him telling me once when I was a child that I had "cousins by the dozens". He was one of the good ones.

I was so saddened to hear that Jim passed away!  My condolences and sympathy to you all.  Jim was a great guy.  Although we haven't seen each other in many years, I have fond memories of he and I as kids living down the street from each other,  at family gatherings, etc.  We were only a year apart in school, and I remember liking it that I had my cousin there to look after me.

We just got word of your passing and it makes us truly sorry we couldn't come to the gathering last month. Through the years we tried to stay in touch but lived mostly out of 
state. We do have some great memories like you and Mary being in our wedding so long ago.Our fun of being in our own private group we made up called "the big six" at Wyoming High.
You leave behind great memoires of what a great person, athlete , husband and father you

Hoek, you will be missed.  The memories from Wyoming Park are many.  All good.  From kindergarten to graduation.  From Little League baseball to the more advanced leagues.  You had a great curveball.  

I remember playing basketball after school.  Mom (girl) was always happy to see the group knowing the driveway would be shoveled before we played.  

You were always smiling.  May you rest in peace.

So sorry that you have left us, dear Jim.  All of us in your high school class were so glad to 
spend time with you and Mary in Grand Haven last month and we know it was an effort
for you to join us.

Jim always called me "Beaky" and we had lots and lots of laughs during our high school
years together.  I know that if I hadn't moved to Texas we would have spent much more
time with y'all.  

I will always remember Jim's sense of humor and his "kidding around."  Peace to Mary
and your family.

I have so many fond memories of Hook. He was one one the first customers at Florentine to grill me on who I was a where I came from. Then when it was all said and done he told me I would fit right in.  He was right. So glad I can call him a friend of mine.  My condolences to the family.  With love

"Jim" is survived by his wife Mary Hoekstra; 2 sons, Randall (grandchildren Haley, Joel, Lindsay, and Savannah), and Eric and his wife Renee Laura (grandchildren Adam and Brianna); siblings Laura and Ben Cooper, Flo Behrendt, Ruth and Rollie Molenkamp, George Hoekstra, sisters-in-law Lois LeFleur and JoAnne Hoekstra; brother-in-law David Van Ostrom; many nieces and nephews.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents Ted and Jennie Hoekstra, brother Ted Hoekstra, sister Kathryn Kamp, brothers-in-law, Jack Kamp and Ken Behrendt; special niece Terri Molenkamp and nephew Tommy Baker.
