Cherie loved Holland and spent her entire life there. She most recently resided at Resthaven Care Center. She retired from Meijer after 32 years; a job she loved. Cherie also loved Tulip Time and sewed 20-30 Dutch costumes each year. She served as costume director for Holland High School for 10 years. She was a talented seamstress who sewed numerous wedding and prom dresses. She also loved her crafts: cooking, sewing, needlepoint, cross-stitch, and coloring. She spent many years suffering from orthostatic tremors in her legs.
She was preceded in death by her parents Trenton and Thelma Groteler, her brother Terrance, and her grandson Cody Maatman.
Cherie is survived by her four daughters: Calli (Wayne) Baldock of Palm Harbor, FL; Lonna Maatman of Grand Haven, MI; Michelle (Mark) Ursuy of Midland, MI; and Miranda Roth of Holland, MI. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In addition, Cherie is survived by her aunt Donna Covington of Holland, MI; her sister Karen Van Houten of Hamilton, MI; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Cherie loved them all.
Per her request, cremation has taken place and there will be no services.
