Monteen Smith, 87, passed away on October 9. She was born in Brayton, TN to the late Ralph and Etta Gadd Smith. Monteen was a graduate of the Baroness Erlanger School of Nursing, Class of 1960 and practiced nursing for 35 years in the Chattanooga area. She retired as Regional Vice President of a national home health care organization. She was a member of Signal Crest United Methodist Church.
Monteen was a 55-year resident of Signal Mountain and 20+ year resident of Alexian Village on Signal Mountain. She was a famed quilter and a seamstress who vowed that making Barbie doll dresses was the most difficult of sewing tasks, but she made thousands of them! She also ventured into oil painting and created exceptional sand art. An avid birder, she loved hummingbirds most of all. Following in the footsteps of her mother, she was a very talented gardener who loved to share her flowers with everyone. But perhaps, her greatest gift was that of laughter. She laughed loud and frequently, which brought joy to everyone who had the privilege of sharing time with her.
She was preceded in death by spouses, Leon W. Davis, Jr. and Gordon G. Smith, Sr. and her siblings, Nola Cox, Carl Smith, Andy Smith, Vera McClure and Nell Brown.
She is survived by her daughter, Konnie Smithers, son-in-law, Buz Smithers, grandson, Nathan Smithers, nieces, Harriett Mabry (Jenks) Parker, Judy May Stiles, great niece Leslye May; great nephew Robert “Bobby” Brown, cousin, Gene Higgins, best friend from nursing school for over 60 years, Joanna Roe; and dear friend, Sterling Anderson Labedz, and stepchildren, Gail Catron, Jeff (Sandy) Davis, Carol Taylor, Leigh Ann (Tim) Coleman, Amy (Daniel) Lamsey, Gordon G. (Jo) Smith, Jr., Lee Anne McCarthy and Maggie Storment.
