Maurice Halliburton (Buddy) Rogers, Jr., was greeted by his Heavenly Father on Thursday, February 9, 2023. He was born December 6, 1937, to the late Maurice Halliburton Rogers, Sr., and Miriam Eleanor Rogers at Fairfax Place in Dot, Kentucky. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Mary Rogers Cain, Sarah Rogers Smith, Ann Rogers Clark, and Thaddeus Eugene Rogers.
Mr. Rogers was a US Army veteran serving as a Tank Crewman in the 123rd Armored Division during the Berlin Crisis of 1961. A Quilt of Valor was awarded to him in recognition of his service and sacrifice to protect and defend our Nation.
Mr. Rogers was retired from the Tennessee Valley Authority after 31 years of service as a Medical Technologist. He was a former member of Highland Park Baptist Church and of the Men’s Bible Class for over 40 years serving on the Finance Committee and as an usher. He was currently a member of Ridgedale Baptist Church and the Covenant Class. He was a longtime member of the Christian Business Men’s Committee (CBMC). He also took great pride in offering affordable apartments to up –and - coming Tennessee Temple students.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Georgia Arlene Winnie Rogers; stepson, Michael Brant (Lori) Winnie. He was Poppa to Taylor Elaine Winnie and Evan Benjamin Winnie. Other survivors include sister-in-law, Carole Rogers and two brothers-in-law, John Cain, and Wayne Clark. Surviving are several very special nieces and nephews. He was fond of his neighborhood friend, Zachary Hoffman.
The family will receive friends at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home from 3-6 pm, Monday, February 13, and from 12-1 pm, Tuesday, February 14.
Funeral services will be 1 pm, Tuesday, February 14, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Dr. Doug Plumlee officiating. Interment will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with Dr. Mike Ryburn officiating.
