Larry was the son of the late Luther and Vida (Pennington) Mangum. He was of the Pentecostal faith and held many positions at three local churches.
He graduated from Soddy-Daisy High School in 1959. He worked 28 years for the U.S Postal Service, retiring in 1992 as a supervisor. After retiring, he worked for the Hamilton County School System as a substitute teacher for 26 years.
He enjoyed sports and was a TSSAA official for 40 years. He officiated baseball, softball, football and basketball games.
He worked many elections over 30 years for the Hamilton County Election Commission.
Larry was honored at Loftis Middle School in 2016. He was inducted into the Soddy Daisy High School Hall of Fame in 2018.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Vida Mangum, three infant brothers, sisters, Sue Blaylock, Mildred Miller, and Roberta Millican.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 59 years, Pat Mangum, daughters, Stephanie (Dereck) Newman, Laura (Wayon) Hardee and son, Jeffrey Mangum, grandchildren, Joshua (Lauren) Eustice, Michael Culbertson, Austin Hardee, Braden Hardee, great-grandson, Owen Eustice, sister, Patricia Stewart and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Sunday, April 23, 2023 and from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Monday, April 24, 2023 at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, April 24, 2023 in the chapel with Reverend Blake Freeman officiating. Interment will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
