It was one of the greatest pleasures in my Postal career to have known Larry.

My coach, My teacher, My associate on the field when I was a ball boy for the mocs. Mysub at soddy high school. My favorite person that inspired me to not give up on football. 
My friend. 
Coach! Sir! Mr.! So many titles. So many victories! So many people that were inspired by this great man that will never bee able to be spoken. 
Thank you. 
Thank you to your family, thank you to the folks that raised a man like you that instilled something in you, that gave you a caring touch and non judgemental life. 
A scholar and a Saint. 
A friend and a motivator. 
A man to thrive after his accomplishments and community involvement.

So sorry to hear of Larry’s passing. He umpired my son’s baseball games in Lookout Valley for many years in the 90’s. I liked to give him a hard time and he gave it back to me but we always knew that we had a fair umpire when we saw him. 
My condolences to his family. He was a good man. 

Larry was a great man.  I first met him around 1987 or 1988 when he umpired my high school baseball games.   He was always one of the best umpires back then, but he definitely had the best character of them all.   He didn’t try to embarrass or belittle athletes.    He was always trying to teach or coach them, while enforcing the rules. After graduating high school and moving off for college, I rarely crossed paths or got to speak to him.   But in 2014, he was assigned to my son’s middle school baseball game   and I was able to get his attention in-between innings.  Remember this: I haven’t seen him in probably 25 years and I had  gained 45-50 lbs,   Mr. Magnum looked at me & squinted his eyes a little bit, then said “TUCK, is that you?”    I was shocked that he remembered me, but he even called me by name.    That shows how much Larry thought about people.  We then carried on a conversation through the game and afterwards   We spoke about our past 20-25 years, our families and many coaches, including Clifford Kirk.  He then asked about my parents.  You see, my mom was one of those HS moms that complained about every call an official made during a game, and believed that her son did no wrong.    She always heckled Larry & the others about their calls on the bases or behind the plate, but it always intensified with Larry’s calls, especially balls & strikes.     She’d complain about every pitch, it seemed, & Mr. Mang would always let her have it right back after the inning ended.   Of course it was mostly in fun and I believe she just liked aggravating him, but he never backed down.    Anyway, after asking about my parents, he said “you’re crazy ol momma always stayed on my butt.   But you know what, I enjoyed every minute of it.  We never crossed any lines of disrespect, had a lot of fun with it,  and made the game a lot of fun.  She was one of my favorite “fans” ever. “

Ann and Patsy Jean, your Larry was a great Godly man who will be missed.  Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.  Heaven has another bright happy light in Heaven.

Stephanie so sorry to hear about your Dad. I wish I could be there but I will be praying for all the family. Prayers for comfort and peace.
