She was born in Falling Water on June 22, 1934, the youngest of four siblings, all of whom she remained close with throughout life. Through her brother Bud, she met the true love of her life, Curtis Lynn Hixson, and the two married on August 20, 1954.
Sons Lynn Bernard and Jeffrey Alan joined them in 1955 and 1958. The family lived in Cloverdale for years until they relocated into Hixson near Lakesite and were highly active in Red Bank Cumberland Presbyterian Church and contributed much to their community and their friends.
Once her sons were in school, Kathy returned to school herself, excelled, and taught at Ganns Middle Valley Elementary until she and Lynn both retired.
They spent years traveling and enjoying their families, including grandchildren. Kathy was a member for over 41 years with the Daughters of the American Revolution, Judge David Campbell Chapter, and enjoyed participating in all their events and making friends with her fellow members. Kathy was a longtime volunteer with Memorial Northpark Hospital. She kept traveling and finding fun in life even after the death of Lynn in 2004.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Warren and Albin Stephens Moody; her husband of 50 years, Curtis Lynn Hixson; siblings, Mary Lynn Moody Jackson, (Bud) Franklin Edwin Moody and Bryan Deuinn Moody.
Kathy is survived by her sons Barney and his wife, Gayle, and Jeff and his wife, Karen; grandchildren Chad Brown, Susan Hixson, and Stephanie McQueen, and grandson-in-law Josh McQueen. She is also survived by the delights of her later years, her great-grandchildren Kelsey Brown, Josie McQueen, and Hollis McQueen. She was loved greatly by her family and the loss of her vibrancy will be felt deeply by many.
There will be a private graveside service on Wednesday, December 28, at Foster Hixson Cemetery with Reverend Theresa Martin officiating.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 pm on Wednesday, December 28, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
