He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Pauline Whitaker, brothers, Edward, James and Richard, and his granddaughter, Shawnna Whitaker.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years Marguerite, “Cookie” Whitaker; sons, Doug (Angela) Whitaker, and Mike Whitaker both of Ooltewah; daughters, Peggy Whitaker (David) of Chattanooga, and Patti (Don) Haynes of Hixson; AND BROTHER Robert (Rose) Whitaker of Chattanooga. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Mandy, Dougie, Michelle, Matt, Samantha, Nicole, Tanner, and Jake, as well as ten great-grandchildren, Layla, Canyon, Marlie, Noble, Madisyn, Able, Jack, Jacob, Joci, and Kai, and many loved nieces and nephews.
Jack was born in Liberty, Ohio, and graduated from Jefferson High School with long time best friends, Don and Nancy Kerschner. He served in the United States Navy. While in the Navy, he met the love of his life, Cookie, and they were wed in 1956. He later graduated from University of Dayton with a B.S. in Chemistry. He was employed with NCR for over 20 years and was instrumental in the development of Micro-Encapsulation systems which later was used in many discoverable uses, such as carbonless paper, scratch & sniff applications, and liquid crystal mood ring technology.
Jack brought his family to Chattanooga in 1984 and fell in love with all of Tennessee’s glory. He was an avid golfer, and enjoyed watching his Ohio State Buckeyes and the Tennessee Vols play on TV.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 5, 2024, from 11 to 1 followed by the service at 1 in the chapel at Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, TN 37343.
