Gail was born in Frankfurt, Kentucky in 1936 to CW Combs (former basketball player for the Kentucky Wildcats) and Jane Campbell Combs both from Lexington, Kentucky. Gail attended Vanderbilt University where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority, holding several leadership roles. She met her devoted and loving husband, Robert Frazier, while he was attending law school at Vanderbilt.
Gail and Bob moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1958 when Bob joined Spears, Moore, Rebman and William law firm. They moved to Signal Mountain to raise their three children Rob, Maggie, and Jane. Gail was a wonderful cook who created many beautiful holiday meals and celebrations. In addition, she was a talented seamstress and embroidered many treasured items for her family and friends. Gail and her three friends (Mary Wright, Lee Brown, and Gladys Crates) created a boutique consignment shop named The Four Belles. The shop provided handmade gifts for the Signal Mountain community. She also had a small jewelry business with her friend, Bobbie Powers. They handcrafted unique pieces of jewelry and traveled the southeast attending local festivals to sell their creations. Bob and Gail, along with several avid tennis couples, founded the Signal Mountain Tennis Association so that tennis enthusiasts could benefit from the talented tennis pro Pancho Sanhueza. The association held tournaments and clinics to foster a love of the game for all ages in their community.
Gail was an active member of St. Augustine Catholic Church serving many years on the altar guild.
While living at Alexian Retirement Village, she served for 4 years as the representative for her Brow View building and the Board, voicing concerns on behalf of the residents. In addition, Gail was a formidable bridge and card player.
Gail is preceded in death by her devoted and loving husband, Robert Frazier and her parents. She is survived by her two sisters, Sidney Vance (West Palm Beach, FL) and Sara Rachel Combs (Signal Mountain). Her three children, Dr. Rob Frazier (Karen) of Virginia Beach, Maggie Henderson of Anniston, AL, and Jane Sadrabadi (Kayvon) of Signal Mountain. Her nine grandchildren, Ian, Michael, Luke, and Robert Frazier, Mamie, Lilly, and Porter Henderson, and Josh Sandlin and Minah Sadrabadi.
Celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 15, 2014 at St. Augustine Catholic Church at 11:00 am. The visitation will be from 9:30 am to 11:00 am at the church prior to the funeral mass.
