James E. Webb passed away peacefully on January 12, 2024. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Burris Webb, his parents, Fred & Fannie Webb, brothers Lee, Fred, Charles, Bill, and Wayne, and his sister Maude Davis. He is survived by his daughters Jan Parker (Ken) and Kay Addaman (David), his grandchildren, Sarah Parker Newby (Chris), Kendrick and James Addaman, and his great grandchildren Tinsley and Madison Newby, his sister Fay Ervin, (Mackinley), and several nieces and nephews.
James was born in Etowah, TN, and grew up in Tellico Plains. He graduated from Tellico Plains High School in 1952, and moved to Chattanooga. He was employed at Dixie Yarns for many years. He then worked at Dupont, where he was known as “Spider”.
He retired from DuPont and enjoyed traveling across the United States with Ruth for several years. James and Ruth spent winters in Florida for several years where they enjoyed playing golf, and James excelled at shuffleboard. James was a member of Creeks Bend Golf Course, where he had many holes in one over the years. He also played golf in the Senior Olympics, which he greatly enjoyed. James was also an avid bowler in his younger years.
James was a member of Hixson United Methodist Church for many years. He was a member of the Sam McConnell Sunday School Class, where he made life-long friends.
James resided at Everlan Senior Living for the last several years, where he made even more friends, entertaining everyone with his great sense of humor & funny stories. James was outgoing, making friends wherever he went. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3pm on Saturday, January 20, 2024 in the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
Funeral services will follow at 3pm in the chapel with Judge Clarence Shattuck officiating. Interment will be at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements are under the care of the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, TN 37343.
