J. C. was a longtime resident of the Chattanooga area. He served our country during World War II in the U. S. Army. J. C. was a retired truck driver with over 33 years of service. He was a member of Lupton Drive Baptist Church for over 48 years. J. C. was an ordained Deacon and member of the Auditorium Sunday School Class.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jack, Ralph and Truman.
J. C. is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty Taylor Cresswell; children, Ronald (Pam) Cresswell, Dallas, Texas, Phyllis (Garry) McNutt, Red Bank, Rick (Cheri) Cresswell, Ray Dennis (Teresa) Cresswell, both of Cleveland, Tennessee; grandchildren, Chris (Brandy) Jones, Jeremy Jones, Ashley Cresswell, Jonathan Cresswell, all of Chattanooga, Shane, Joseph and Jacob (Katie) Cresswell, all of Dallas, Texas, Ray Cresswell, Jr., Joshua Cresswell, Ryan Berry, Tina (Michael) Blankinship, all of Cleveland, Jason McNutt, Chickamauga, Georgia; great grandchildren, Chase, Courtney Jones, Matthew Green, Morgan and Abram Cresswell, Chattanooga, Legion, Seth, Joshua Cody, and Grace Nicole Cresswell, all of Dallas, Texas, Jaylan and Jacob Blankinship, Cleveland; siblings, Reba Hall, Betty Jo Rogers and husband Reese, and Gary Breeden; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 19, at the North Chapel.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at Lupton Drive Baptist Church, 859 Lupton Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37415 with Rev. Randy Bell, Rev. Ron Cresswell, Rev. Roger DeHart and Rev. Rickie Cresswell officiating. Burial will be in National Cemetery with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in J. C.’s name to the Benevolence fund at Lupton Drive Baptist Church or your favorite charity.
