Harold was born and raised in Somerset, Kentucky and served our country during World War II in the United States Army. He moved to Chattanooga in 1951 with his late wife, Roberta. Harold retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad with over 44 years of service. Harold was a longtime member of The Gathering, formerly Memorial Baptist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir. His life revolved around his family and church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Roberta Sexton Newell.
Harold is survived by his children, Leanne (Ken) Morrow and William “Billy” (Lisa) Newell; grandchildren, Amy (Jonathan) Prater, Beth Newell and Casey (Sydra) Newell; great grandchildren, Charlee Cate, Knox, Branch and John Prater and Jade Newell.
The family will receive friends from 12 (noon) until 2 pm on Thursday, October 22, at North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
Graveside services for Harold will follow at 2 pm on Thursday, at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with Pastor David Price officiating.
The family would like to thank Susan, Brenda, Peggy, and Kathy with Gooden’s Compassion Care for their love and compassion given to Harold.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Harold’s name to The Gathering, 4445 Hixson Pike, Hixson, TN 3734, or Gooden Compassion Care services at 5106 Gooden Lane, Hixson, TN 37343.
