Fred was a longtime resident of the Hixson area and retired from DuPont Corporation. He was a member of Dallas Bay Baptist Church. He was a lifetime member of the Hixson Masonic Lodge # 727 F&AM. Fred always enjoyed traveling and spending time in Okeechobee, Florida where he loved to crappie fish.
He was preceded in death by his son, Kenny Hawkins; his 8 brothers, 4 sisters and was the last surviving sibling by 6 hours.
Fred is survived by his loving wife of 76 years, Martha Jean Hawkins; children, Danny (Dawn) Hawkins and Sheila (Steve) Roberts; 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 pm on Sunday, November 26, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Fred’s life will follow at 3 pm on Sunday, at the North Chapel with Reverend Ken Young officiating.
A private family burial will be held on Monday at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
