Ms. Betty H. Lay

Betty was born in Rutledge, Tennessee to the late Boyd and Ethel Hodge. She was a graduate of Rutledge High School and attended Business College. Betty moved to Knoxville, Tennessee before moving to Chattanooga. She worked for Lookout Beverages Incorporated for several years before joining her husband at East Ridge Bakery. Betty was a member of Morris Hills Baptist Church and later at Soddy Church of God, where she was very active in Sunday school and the Ladies Activities.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, L. Paul Lay; son, Johnny Paul Lay and a granddaughter, Holly Nicole Lay.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Susan (Glenn) Mathews; grandchildren, Winston Paul Lay, Stephen Taylor (Lacy) Lay and Alicia Nicole Mathews.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 pm on Saturday, November 4, and 2:30 to 3:30 pm on Sunday, at the North Chapel.

A Celebration of Betty’s Life will follow at 3:30 pm on Sunday at the North Chapel with her Pastor Jerry Justice officiating. Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The family would like to express their appreciation to all of the family, friends and the Dayton Team with Hospice of Chattanooga for the love and care given to Betty.
