Bill was born January 4, 1934, in Dearborn, the son of Mr. & Mrs. Hugh and Phyllis (Friday) Sweeney. When he was introduced to Jane Novack at a Veteran’s Memorial Dance, it was love at first sight! Bill and Jane began dating, and were subsequently married on September 8, 1956; sharing 65 wonderful years together.
During his life, Bill proudly served his country in the United States Navy for four years; and upon his discharge, he began his career in the automotive industry. He worked as a pattern maker for many years until his retirement. He was incredibly proud of the accomplishments; especially receiving his General Motors Gold Card and lifetime membership. Strong in his Catholic faith, Bill and his wife Jane were parishioners at St. Patrick Catholic Church in White Lake for almost forty years. In addition to his religious devotions, Bill was passionate about uplifting his community. He served as the Comcast Liaison on behalf of White Lake Township and was also a longtime member of his Homeowner’s Association.
Bill loved sports of any kind! He had a great passion for baseball and softball from an early age; and he was even a batboy for the Detroit Tigers during the 1940’s! Bill was a member of a senior travel softball league, and greatly enjoyed all the memories and friendships he made playing with his teammates and traveling all over the United States.
