Luigi Giovanni Michele Broccardo (Louie John Broccardo) age 86, died surrounded by his loving family at his home in Howell, Michigan after a courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia. He was born on July 5, 1938, to parents Virginio (Gene) and Luigina (Louise) in Dearborn, Michigan. Louie’s early years were spent growing up in Inkster, Michigan before leaving for Assumption Catholic High School, in Windsor, Canada. From there he attended Hillsdale College where he graduated with a degree in biology. Shortly after college, he entered the Army and was stationed in Mainz, Germany for two years where he became a proud Paratrooper. On returning from service, he married the love of his life, Shirley Scuereb, on October 3, 1964. They went on to have three children and create a wonderful life together in Livonia, Michigan before moving to Howell.
Louie began his professional career in the pharmaceutical distribution industry working for McKesson & Robbins, Great Lakes Wholesale and then Frank W. Kerr before retiring from the corporate world to extend his career as a consultant.
In life, Louie was passionate about helping others and volunteered on the Board of The Fallen and Wounded Soldiers Fund (non-profit) and was responsible for helping many wounded Michigan soldiers, veterans and their families. He was also a member of the Italian American Club of Livonia where he served as president of the Banquet Center and was honored as Italian of the Year, reflecting his commitment to both his heritage and community.
Louie was extremely passionate and loved his family. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren and watching them grow up and attending their sporting and extracurricular events. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life such as spending time with family and friends, barbequing, fishing and his yearly trips, with his wife Shirley, to Aruba. His legacy of generosity, warmth and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and he will be greatly missed.
