Richard N Sargent

Richard "Sarge" Sargent of Hammond, Indiana was a loving father and proud Veteran of the US Navy and on April 7th, 2021 he passed away peacefully at the age of 73. Richard was a graduate of TF South High School in Lansing, Illinois before joining the Navy. Serving his country proudly, Sarge was on board the USS Hornet on November 15th, 1969 when the crew was tasked with the mission to recover the Apollo 12 Lunar Spacecraft that splashed down 385 miles east of American Samoa. Richard is survived by his sons, Douglas and Brad; daughter in law Kim; brother Virgil Sargent and many nieces and nephews. His was preceded in death by his mother Mollie Ruth Sargent; father Bardwell Sargent; sister Barbara Smith and longtime companion Gloria Majszak. A memorial visitation for Richard will be held at Kuiper Funeral Home on Saturday, April 17, 2021 from 1 PM to 4 PM. In lieu of flowers donations to Hospice of the Calumet Area would be appreciated.
