Richard was born December 19, 1935, in East Gary Indiana to Wilbur and Anna (Garber) Hucker. He graduated from San Pierre High School in 1953. Richard was a proud Navy Reservist from 1956 to 1961. On February 11, 1956, he married Mavis Lavonne Marks from North Judson, Indiana. Richard was employed as an executive banker in Indiana and then in Chicago, Illinois.
Richard and Mavis had five children and divorced in 1971. Richard married Harriet Ann Davis on April 2, 1971. Richard and Harriet enjoyed love and life for fifty years together. Richard’s career transpired into a position in government service. After twenty years, Richard retired from his position in Lake County as the Community Economic Development Director; and was formerly certified as a Deputy Sheriff for Lake County. He was also certified as an honorable Colonel for Kentucky. Richard enjoyed photography, camping in the north woods, hunting, and fishing. Most of all he enjoyed his family, friends, and the company of his loving dogs of which he had many.
He is preceded in death by his parents Wilbur and Anna Hucker, as well as his eldest brother Wilbur Hucker Jr.
Richard is survived by his loving wife Harriet A. Hucker; his younger brother Charles Hucker; his baby sister Mary Myers; his five children Sharon Lee Quaife, Terri Lynn Hucker, Richard James Hucker Jr (Dympna Coll), David Eugene Hucker (Marisabel Villanueva Hucker), and Candace Ann DeBartolo (Frank P. DeBartolo). Richard is also survived by his lovely sixteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Richard was a loving husband, father, and friend. He was a blessing to all that knew him. Richard was gregarious and full of life; he was always there to comfort and support his family and friends. Richard will be missed.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, December 2, 2022, at Kuiper Funeral Home located at 9039 Kleinman Rd, Highland, IN 46322, followed by a 2:00 PM burial at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens located at 8178 Cline Ave, Crown Point, IN 46307.
