John was born June 12, 1938 in Highland, IN, to the late Agatha (nee Wachter) and John Spindler Sr. Also preceding him in death were his brother, Anthony "Tony" Spindler; nephew, Jeffrey Gilman Gyure; and great nephew, Seth Gilman Ivanov.
Left to cherish his memory are sisters, Virginia (Leo) Brennan and Therese "Terri" Gyure; nieces, Claire, Tracy, and Kelly; nephew, Shawn (Katherine); many great nieces and nephews; as well as a great-great-nephew.
He is a 1956 graduate of Hammond Technical Vocational High School. John honorably served in the United States Navy, which gave him an opportunity to travel the world, allowing him to have many great tales to tell. He retired after 36 years of devoted service at Inland Steel in East Chicago. He was a faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Griffith, IN. He was a gifted gardener. John was also an avid fisherman and a member of Isaac Walton in Griffith, where he enjoyed sharing time with his great nephews. John never forgot a birthday, anniversary, or any other family celebration. His kindness and consideration will be greatly missed by his family and all who loved him.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 25, 2018 from 5-8 pm at Kuiper Funeral Home (9039 Kleinman Rd; Highland, IN 46322) with a prayer service at 7:30 pm, and again from 9:30 am on Monday, February 26, 2018 at St. Mary Catholic Church (525 N. Broad St.; Griffith, IN 46319) until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am with Fr. Theodore Mens officiating. Burial will follow in Calumet Park Cemetery.
