James F. Yazvec, age 82 of Highland, IN, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Saturday August 24, 2013 at Memorial Hospital, in Minneapolis, MN. He is survived by his wife, Rita J. of Highland, IN; children: James E. of Maple Grove, MN, Paul of Monticello, MN, and Michael (Mary) Chanhassen of MN; two grandchildren: Matthew and Bridget; one sister, Dorothy (Joseph) Posavec; many loving extended family members. Preceded in death by his parents; brother, Rudolph (Ann); and sister, Evelyn Atherton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, August 30, 2013 at 10:30 AM Directly at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Rev. Edward Moszur officiating. Burial Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit with the family Thursday from 3:00- 6:00 PM (with a 3:30 PM prayer service) at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Rd. (two blocks south of Ridge Rd.) Highland, IN. James was born May 18, 1931 in East Chicago, IN, the son of James and Mary (nee Katch) Yazvec. He had many fond memories of his hometown of Whiting, graduating from Whiting High School in 1949. James was a member of the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1954 and retired from the Amoco Refinery in Whiting, IN. He married Rita J. De Sutter on May 27, 1961 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Whiting.
