It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Norma LaMon Horton-Harris, age 67, of Jamestown, North Carolina, who departed this world peacefully on October 26th, 2024, surrounded by her family.
Born on January 3, 1957, in Lenoir NC, Norma was the daughter of the late Otto Carl and Ellen Christine Horton. After graduating from Lenoir High School, Norma earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Education at Appalachian State University-Boone, NC, 1982; and a Doctor of Theology from the Christian Life School of Theology-Columbus, GA, June 2017. She was a member of the Jubilee Worship Center in Greensboro NC.
Norma worked as a Law Enforcement Officer at the High Point; NC Police Department for 3 years. She dedicated 25 years of services as a Licensed Theft Law Enforcement Inspector Agent with the Department of Transportation, Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) with the mission to prevent auto theft and to apprehend offenders. Colleagues and friends admired her integrity, work ethic, and ability to inspire those around her. Norma engaged in fostering a strong sense of community connection with her relationships, promoting trust and cooperation between law enforcement and the public she served.
Norma was married to the late Russell Harris for 40 years. She is predeceased by her parents and brothers and sister: Sherman, Lyle (Brenda}, Eleanor (Norris) Reid.
Norma is survived by her stepson, Brian Armstrong, and her beloved immediate family: Terry (Shirley) Horton, Nancy (late Samuel) Butts, Edith (late Weldon) Ball, Steve (Tonya) Horton, Larry Horton, Betty Watts, Sharon (Sam) Pellom, Phillip (Deborah) Horton, Crystal Jordyn Horton, and Steven (Sherry) Horton. She will be lovingly remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, as well as many relatives and friends.
