Mrs. Sheppard was born in Calhoun Falls, SC in 1919 to the Reverend Beverly H. and Fleda Burch Tucker. In her youth, Nannette played the organ for her father’s worship services and chased the wasps away. She was a member of the National Honor Society in high school. She graduated from Converse College attended the Spartanburg General Hospital School of Nursing, where she later joined the school faculty.
During World War II Mrs. Sheppard went to work in the Naval Hospital in Seattle, Washington with the US Cadet Nursing Corps. In 1946 she married Ralph L. Sheppard who preceded her in death in April 2010 after sixty-four years of marriage. She served as a school crossing guard for Montlieu Avenue School for many years, helping several generations of children keep safe. When she retired from that position, she was the oldest employee and longest term employee for the City of High Point.
Mrs. Sheppard was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. Her hobbies included reading, playing the piano, and correspondence with family and friends.
Mrs. Sheppard has three children, Ralph L. (Rick) Sheppard, Jr. and wife Sharon; David Bruce Sheppard and wife Ivy; and Beverly Nan Sheppard Briggs and husband Ronald. There are four grandchildren: Ezra C. Sheppard and wife Sofia, Sarah M. Sheppard, Adrienne E. Briggs, and Laura A. Briggs, and two great-grandchildren Ella and Nova Sheppard.
Memorial services will be held Friday at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church by the Reverend Richard A. Howle. The family will receive friends following the service in the Asbury Room of the church. Memorials may be directed to the church at P. O. Box 5289, High Point, NC 27262
