HIGH POINT — Mrs. Mary Lou Culler Snider Metcalfe died peacefully Wednesday, December 2, 2015, at Hospice of the Piedmont in High Point following a brief illness.
Born August 11, 1928 in High Point, she was the daughter of Iola D. and Roy B. Culler, Sr. She attended High Point City Schools and in 1949 graduated from Meredith College in Raleigh. Long regarded as one of High Point's young beauties, in 1951 she was chosen as Miss High Point Centennial and reigned proudly over the city's Centennial celebrations. Later, she also enjoyed success as a model in New York.
A resident of West Palm Beach for 46 years, Mary Lou returned to High Point in 2005. She was an avid gardener who loved being surrounded by her flowers. She was a member of Emerywood Baptist Church and the Ladies' Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Hungry Supper Club, the Debonaire Dance Club and Emerywood Country Club.
In addition to her parents Mary Lou was preceded in death by her sister, Iris C. Creech, her first husband Harrison F. Snider and her second husband, Lawrence Metcalfe.
She is survived by a son, David Snider and daughter-in-law Stephanie; a grandson, Cameron Snider; and brothers, Roy B. Culler, Jr. and wife Dot, and Robert A. Culler and wife Barbara, all of HIgh Point.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 5, 2015, at Emerywood Baptist Church with Dr. Robert Ferguson and Dr. Tom Haggai officiating. Visitation with the family will follow the service. Interment will be in the Guilford Memorial Park Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC 27262.
