Mrs. Morel was born in Thomasville on August 8, 1927 to Lloyd C. and Margaret Smith Dillon. She graduated from Women’s College, now UNC-Greensboro. A gifted artist, Mrs. Morel had a passion for art which she expressed in her teaching and later in commercial art design. She was an active member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church as long as her health permitted. On December 16, 1950 she married Jacob Waldburg “Jake” Morel who preceded her in death on August 18, 1993.
Surviving are her children and their spouses, daughters, Lisa Morel Key and husband Darrell of Greensboro, Patrice A. Morel of Pa., and son Jonathan Dillon Morel and wife Lisa of Greensboro. Mrs. Morel has one brother Sonny Dillon and wife Ida Rose of Winston-Salem. There are five Grandchildren: Jordan P. Key and Christopher B. Key of Raleigh, Melissa L. Key of Greensboro, Zachary A. Morel and Sarah E. Morel of Greensboro.
Funeral services for Mrs. Morel will be conducted Friday at 11:00 a.m.
at St Mary’s Episcopal Church with the Reverend Sara Palmer officiating. Interment will follow the service in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Sechrest Funeral Service on E. Lexington Avenue on Thursday evening from 7 until 8:30 p.m.
