Jeanne C. Gober, passed away October 11, 2023. She was born June 11, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York to Irene and John Patrick Corcoran. Jeanne‘s childhood was in the middle of the Great Depression. As a young adult she worked as a model for Mainbocher couturier in New York City. He designed numerous outfits with her including dresses for celebrities and the signature hat for the Women’s Army Corps and she later worked as a commercial model.
She met her husband Robert C. Gober from Lynchburg, Virginia, at a summer resort in upstate New York. Shortly thereafter they married and settled in Virginia.
Jeanne enjoyed many years with her husband at Smith Mountain Lake. Later moving to North Carolina, she and Bob came to Pennybyrn at Maryfield in 1996, building a beautiful home in the community. Her last years were spent in Healthcare in Congdon House where she received the most wonderful care from the staff ,the administration, and the caring and compassionate friendships of the sisters from the Poor Servants of the Mother of God.
Surviving are three children, Karen Ensanian and her husband Armand, Bob Gober and his wife Carol and Rodger Gober and his wife Margaret; two grandchildren, Matthew and Carla and two great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, October 16, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church by Father Baiju Paul, O.S.F.S. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium. The family will receive friends at the church prior to service, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Memorials may be directed to Pennybyrn. Online condolences may be made at Sechrestdavisphillipsave.com.
