High Point - Jeanette Hankins (Byrd) Montgomery left this world to be with her Heavenly Father on August 11, 2018. She was born in High Point, North Carolina on January 22, 1933. She graduated with honors from High Point Central High School, and from UNC-G. For twenty-seven years she was a teacher in the High Point City and Randolph County School Systems. She was also a long time member of the ADK honorary teachers' sorority. Many of her former colleagues and students at New Market Elementary and Randleman Middle School remember her as one of the best teachers / mentors / friends to have graced the halls of those schools.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at Emerywood Baptist Church in High Point. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, August 13, 2018, at Sechrest Funeral Service High Point.
After retiring in 1992, Jeanette married her loving and devoted husband, Budd Montgomery, and moved to the New Orleans area where they enjoyed going to restaurants and shows as well as traveling. Later they returned to High Point where they enjoyed more time with family and their church community. For the last six years they lived in Thomasville and were blessed with additional friends and neighbors in their retirement community.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Aldene Hankins Brown, Gilbert Hankins, and step-father, Ted Brown, and infant daughters: Martha Dene and Rebecca Jeanette Byrd.
Surviving family members include husband, Dr. Budd Montgomery; sons: Mark Byrd (Shanda), David Byrd (Annette), Paul Byrd (Judy), Steve Byrd (Barbara); step-daughters: Pam Montgomery , Karen Shumake (Shawn), Crystal Ray (Stuart); grandchildren: Andrew Byrd (Laura), Sara Quarty (Brandon), Jared Byrd, Jessica Cromer (Nick), Adam Byrd (Abby), Rebecca Byrd, Nathan Ray, Teagan Ray, Maddie Ray, Bailey Andrews, Gunter Andrews, T. J. Holder, Dustin Holder (Samantha); great grandchildren: Cohen Byrd, Ethan Quarty, Keeley and Zane Holder, and Destiny and Tony Holder.
Jeanette was a wonderful Christian woman who lived an exemplary life and always found a way to overcome difficulties and put the needs of others above her own. She was active in her church, serving on various committees and teaching Sunday school classes for many years. Always a model of faith, strength, and kindness she continued to be a constant support for her family members and friends, even during the time of her declining health. Countless lives have been touched by this special lady, and the lives of her family members have been enriched beyond measure. In death, as in life, she continues to be an inspiration to us all!
