The world lost Griffin Lyndon Weathers, a beautiful and charismatic soul too soon, on Monday April 9th, 2018 at only 17 years old. Griffin was born on July 18, 2000 in High Point, NC. He was a senior at High Point Central and would graduate in June. In the fall he was set to begin studying Exercise Science and Psychology at High Point University to continue his energetic passion of nutrition and health and helping his family and friends reach their goals physically, mentally and emotionally. From a very young age, he was an athlete and avid sports fan . He played basketball, football and baseball, most recently at HP Central. His compassion for others spread through every team he was on, his positive energy always transferred to everyone he met and interacted with. He was not only a valuable player, but the teams biggest cheerleader. If he wasn't with family or friends, you could find him at the gym fitting in a workout and inspiring everyone around him to be the best versions of themselves they could be.
Griffin truly lived his life by his father's favorite quote from Ghandi " Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever." Just recently, he told his father "I know I don't always act like it or show you, but I've always wanted to be just like you when I grow up", his father was humbled, speechless and moved to tears. He adored his mother and was always so thoughtful and considerate and never forgot to tell her just how much, even in the last words he said as he walked out the door "I love you Momma". He held his family above everything, never missing a chance to spend time with them whether he was bowling with his sister and brothers, playing mini golf, going to the movies, or making everyone laugh over a meal. He appreciated every moment and never wasted a chance to send them a text just to say "I love you" or how much he looked up to his Sister and Brothers. He was the beloved Uncle to Weston who he cherished playing with, making him giggle like nobody else can and spending summers at the pool. By 16, he had already started to stamp his passport by traveling to Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. He was inspired to see the world and was able to be present and mindful of his amazing experiences, no matter how big or small. He loved adventures and being with his many friends that were more like family to him. He was the youngest of 4 children, but he acted more like a big, protective brother to not only his siblings but his large circle of friends. He was always there for them and was always able to give advice beyond his years.
He loved going to the beach, lakes, hiking through the mountains and exploring this world he loved so much. His sensitive side would always shine through around animals of all kinds he would find that wouldn't have survived without his nurturing and tender care- from turtles, birds, a chinchilla, a school of fish, a baby rabbit that he spent days feeding and then having his sister drive 200 miles to a sanctuary, to his two dogs King and Lizzie he always looked forward to walking and playing with. For his 14th birthday, instead of gifts, he wanted to adopt another dog, Lizzie. His heart was larger than life.
With the most charming smile and loving heart, he touched the lives of everyone he met.
Completely authentic, always genuine, sincere, engaging, vibrant, dedicated, intelligent, loyal, deeply spiritual, considerate, humble, curious, respectful and loving young man.
He is survived by his adoring parents Dayne and Gina Weathers, his big brothers Julian and Logan Weathers, his big "sis" Kristian Weathers-Wedderspoon and brother-in-law Vinny Wedderspoon, nephew Weston Weathers, grandparents Lacy and Lynda Gordon and Fonda Thorne.
A celebration of Griffin's life will be held at Community Bible Church 4125 Johnson Street in High Point, NC on Sunday April 15th at 4pm by Rev. Josh Sands. A visitation will follow the service until 6pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations towards the Griffin Weathers College Scholarship Foundation, TheGriffinWeathersFoundation.org or https://engage.highpoint.edu/SupportScholarships.
