Eugene Courtney Saunders

Eugene Courtney Saunders, 71 died on July 15, 2013 at WFUBMC after a brief illness. Gene was born January 22,1942 in Lynchburg, Va. He was a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, Va. In 1965 he married Harriette Dorr of Danville, Va. Gene served in the U.S. Army, achieving the rank of First Lieutenant before his discharge in 1969. Following his military service, Gene pursued a career in accounting. He was employed by Price-Waterhouse, Thomasville Furniture Industries, Stoneville Furniture, later becoming the controller at Thomas Built Buses before starting his own accounting practice in Thomasville.

Gene is predeceased by his father, Wilmore T. Saunders and a sister, Shirley Saunders Beasley. His is survived by his wife, Harriett Dorr Saunders of High Point, a daughter Courtney Saunders Osborne, and a son-in-law Ryan E. Osborne of Hickory. Survivors also include his mother, Hilda Duff Saunders of Richmond, Va, two brothers, Thomas W. Saunders of Danville, Va and Steve E. Saunders of Richmond, Va.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 18th at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Sechrest Funeral Home, East Lexington Avenue in High Point. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Catawba County, PO Box 63, Hickory, NC 28603 or to an animal rescue organization of choice.
