On Wednesday, January 10, Dorothy had a personal change-of-residence. For over 60 years she has called High Point her home. She now resides in her eternal home, resting comfortably in the arms of Jesus.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Randall Lamb and Annie Tyler Powers; four brothers: R.M. Lamb, Jr., Richard Lamb, Hollis Lamb, and Horace Lamb; seven sisters: Betty Isom, Ernestine Green, Rachel Brisson, Ruby Davis, Carole Spencer, Martha Singleton, and Vivian Greenwood.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, James Oliver Simmons; two daughters: Rhonda Simmons Grimsley and husband Kenny Grimsley, Rita Simmons and husband Jason Utt; two grandsons: Jackson Grimsley and fiancé Allison Helms, and Carson Grimsley; one sister, Edna Benton; and many nieces and nephews that she thought of and loved as her own children.
Dorothy embodied the very best qualities: unending generosity, unconditional love, and true compassion, which extended far beyond her immediate family. She was a beacon for many, always there to offer guidance, inspiration, and support. If you knew her, you were surely blessed.
She loved her family deeply and took great pride in being a Nana. She believed in home-cooked meals and good hair days.
Though her health was failing for the last several years, few people knew the extent to which she struggled and the amount of pain she endured. She has a new body now, free of pain and limitations…and a beautiful head of hair that chemo can’t touch. Every day will be a good hair day!
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, January 16 in the Chapel of Sechrest-Davis Funerals and Cremations, 967 Phillips Avenue, High Point, NC 27262. The family will begin receiving friends at 12:30, with the service beginning at 1:00. A luncheon and time of reflection will follow in the fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Cancer GPS, High Point.
