HIGH POINT – Bess Morgan, 94, died Saturday, July 29th, 2017 while a resident of Pennybyrn at Maryfield in High Point, NC. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, August 5th, 2017 at First Lutheran Church in Greensboro. The family will receive friends following the service.
Bess earned an AB degree from Lenoir Rhyne College where she met Paul Morgan, who would become her husband after his graduation from seminary in 1945. Bess began her teaching career in 1951. Several years later while teaching and raising two young children she earned a Master’s Degree in English from Appalachian State. She continued teaching English until the early 1970s.
Bess had a boundless zest for life and found great joy in fellowship with friends and family. She will be remembered for her warm smile, quick wit, positive outlook and competitive spirit. She loved socializing, singing, walking, reading, tennis and bridge and was determined to continue all her pursuits as long as her body and mind allowed. She was a life-long learner, always studying, looking inward and striving to grow and improve in every aspect of her life – spiritually, mentally, and physically.
Bess believed we are all God’s children and taught her loved ones through word and example to respect, embrace, and revere people of all backgrounds, lifestyles, and beliefs. Her wealth of knowledge coupled with life experiences proved invaluable when her children sought her guidance during life’s many challenges.
Bess was preceded in death by her husband, the Reverend Paul L. Morgan. She will be lovingly remembered by her three children - Paul Z. Morgan, Paula Morgan, Sheila Stahlberger (husband Mike); three grandchildren - James Morgan (wife Alisa), and Kevin and Megan Stahlberger; and two great-grandchildren, Alice and Jake Morgan. Bess is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Ruth and Miriam.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of Pennybyrn for creating a warm and loving home for Bess in her later years and for the compassionate and exceptional care given to her as well as the love and support shown to the entire family during the past seven years.
Bess’s children are also eternally grateful for the love and compassion from her other family – the members and staff of First Lutheran Church who have supported her and her family for 56 years.
