Joe Abbondondelo, born and raised in Roslyn, New York, lived in Hicksville with his wife Sophie (nee Zalewski) until her passing in 1985. He lived in Wantagh and then Melville, New York. He died on May 21 at the age of 95 at the Veterans Administration Community Living Center in Northport.
Joe was a USAF Veteran, former POW, Purple Heart Recipient and marathon runner. He is survived by his son Joseph of Bethpage and son Steven and daughter-in-law Karen of Hicksville.
Viewing will be at the Vernon C. Wagner Funeral Home, 125 W. Old Country Road, Hicksville, Thursday 5/23 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Memorial service at Wagner Funeral home Friday, 5/24 at 9:30 AM with burial to follow at the Calverton National Cemetery, Wading River.
