James W. Adams, 79, of Hicksville, New York, passed away on December 10, 2024. He was born on September 19, 1945, and was a devoted brother, uncle, husband, father, and friend. James leaves behind his beloved wife, Denise, and two daughters, Erin and Jennifer.
James proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, following in the footsteps of his father, who also served as a Marine. Though he rarely spoke about his time in the service, his quiet strength and dedication were a testament to his character.
James met Denise at a bowling alley, where, despite her impressive four strikes in a row, he couldn't resist teasing her about her form. Their playful exchange led to a conversation, and the rest, as they say, was history.
A man of many passions, James had a love for animals, music, and sports. He was an avid fan of Simon & Garfunkel, Billy Joel, and The Association, and enjoyed playing football, baseball, golf, and bowling. A lifelong supporter of the NY Yankees and Giants, James shared his love for these activities with his daughters, nephews, his friends and even their kids.
James took great pleasure in target shooting with one of his closest friends, Bobby, as well as with Erin, at Mitchell Field and hunting with Denise's late brother Joe. A skilled craftsman, known for his unique skill of creating custom ammunition from spent shell casings.
James had a deep interest in World War II history, and enjoyed building model airplanes, both stand alone and radio controlled, from that era. His love for connecting with friends and family was evident in the many gatherings around the table, where his humor and creative acronyms were always a highlight.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024, from 2-4 pm and 6-9 pm, and Sunday, December 15, 2024, from 2-4 pm and 6-9 pm at Vernon C. Wagner Funeral Home, 125 W.
