Helen Dileo, 96, of Hicksville, NY, passed away on October 5, 2022. She is survived by her son, Michael Dileo (Marian) and her daughter, Karen Burgoyne (Kevin), grandchildren- Jason Burgoyne (Elizabeth), Nicholas Dileo (Caryn), Kevin Burgoyne (Christina), Kerry McGowan (Kiel) and Stacey Eddings (Christopher), as well as eight great-grandchildren. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Nicholas.
Helen was born on February 7, 1926 in Brooklyn, NY to Edith and Michael Gualtiere. Helen married Nicholas on November 16, 1947. They moved to Hicksville in 1955 and raised their family together until 1972, when Nicholas passed from a yearlong struggle with cancer. Helen spent the rest of her life focused on the well-being of her family. She also began a twenty-year career at Newsday, which she greatly enjoyed.
Helen had the special ability to make friends everywhere she went and maintained those friendships for life. However, most importantly, she enjoyed countless good times at family gatherings, vacations and Sunday dinners, until her passing. The love, humor, and generosity she shared throughout her life will be deeply missed and certainly remembered by all who knew her.
Family will receive visitors at Vernon C. Wagner Funeral Home, 125 W. Old Country Rd., Hicksville, NY on Sunday 6-8 pm and Monday, 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at St. Ignatius R.C. Church, 129 Broadway, Hicksville, NY on Tuesday, 10 am. Interment will immediately follow at St. John’s Cemetery in Middle Village.
