Ted Fred Starnes

Ted Fred Starnes, 93, passed away July 24, 2014 at Trinity Village.Ted was born July 19, 1921 in Caldwell Co. to the late Keener V. and Delia Miller Starnes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Sue Hollar Starnes; daughters, Patricia Ann Jezek and Lisa Starnes; brothers, Floyd Starnes, Keener Starnes, Jr., Donald Starnes, and an infant brother, Joseph Starnes and a sister, Patsy Hendrix. He was of the Baptist faith, retired brick mason, and served in WW II under General Patton as his personal courier and received the bronze star for bravery. Surviving are his sons, Donny Lee Starnes and wife, Cindy, of Conover, Dale Rice and wife, Linda of Hickory; daughters, Deborah Ekard and husband, Boyd of Hudson, Vanessa Wagoner and husband, Martin, of Granite Falls and Joan Wood and husband, Ken of Charlotte; son-in-law, Ken Jezek of Mint Hill; brother, David Starnes and wife, Carolyn of Conover; sisters, Lavenia Guthrie of Hickory, Mildred Tolbert of Hudson, Linda Brown and husband, Johnny of Conover; grandchildren, Shay Starnes and wife, Melissa, Amber Esclamado and husband, Carlo, and Brooke Starnes; great-grandchildren, Trevor Starnes, Kye Starnes, Malakai Esclamado and numerous step grandchildren and great- grandchildren. The family will receive friends Sunday, July 27, from 2:00 – 3:00 P. M. at Hickory Funeral Home. A graveside service with military honors will follow the receiving at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Bert Dixon officiating. Memorials may be made to Trinity Village, 1265 21st. St., N.
