Sonja Rose (Buff) Ward

HICKORY- Sonja Buff Ward, 76, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at Abernethy Laurels in Newton. Born in Catawba County on September 17, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Sadie Viola Winebarger Buff. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Ward, 3 brothers and 4 sisters. A loving mother and grandmother, she was a caring and generous soul who spent her life giving to others. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Sonja was a member of New Covenant Church of God. She is survived by her daughters Cindy Presnell and husband Kenny of Granite Falls and Robin London and son-in-law Tommy of Hickory; her sons Jeffrey Helms of Morganton, and Jerry Helms of Hickory; daughter-in-law Donna Coffey of Hickory; grandchildren Jeremy Brooks, Michael Helms, Jody Helms, Josh Presnell, and Gabrielle London; and 9 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 10, 2019 from 3:00 pm to 4:45 pm at Hickory Funeral Home. Memorial service will be held Friday, May 10, 2019 at 5:00 pm at Hickory Funeral Home with Bishop Dennis Pitts officiating. Online condolences may be left at www.hickoryfh.com.
