NINA BERRY ECKARD HICKORY-Nina Berry Eckard, 85 of Hickory went home to be with her Lord on June 24, 2016 at Trinity Village. Born on August 24, 1930 in Burke County, she was the daughter of the late Harrison and Maude Heavner Berry. Nina was a member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church ELCA of Hickory. She was a homemaker and a devoted caretaker of her late husband, W. Ray Eckard. Nina loved her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She loved to send cards and talk on the phone with her friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, W. Ray Eckard; sister, Arlena Snypes; brother, Harrison Berry; and a number of brother and sister-in-laws. Survivors include her sons, Dennis Eckard and wife Vickie of Hickory, Ken Eckard and wife Janice of Hickory; grandchildren, Ashley Eckard and wife Toya of Denver, CO, Amanda Valko and husband Tim of Vale, Stacey Eckard of Hickory, Kendria Eckard of Asheboro, Kurtis Eckard of VA; great-grandchildren, Morgan Shook and Nathaniel Valko; sister, Hilda Berry of Hickory; brother-in-laws, Harold Eckard and wife Jenny of Hickory, Jay Lee Eckard of Hickory, and numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, June 27, 2016 at 11 am at St. Stephens Lutheran Church ELCA with The Rev. Greg Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10-10:45 in the chapel at the church. A special thanks to the nurses and staff at Trinity Village for the comfort and care of Mom and for the visits from family and friends.
