Lena Mae Burke Hicks

CONNELLY SPRINGS— Lena Burke Hicks, 84 of Connelly Springs, passed away peacefully at Frye Regional Hospital on Wednesday, March 28, 2018. Born Lena Mae Burke in Cherokee County, SC, on June 27, 1933, she was the daughter of the late James Crayton and Beuna Bell Lovelace Burke. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Roy Hicks; a son James Steven Burke, sister Irene Humphries, brothers Arthur and Amos Burke and 3 infant brothers. She was a member of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church of Connelly Springs and a retired knitter at Johnsons Hosiery Mill of Hickory. She is survived by her daughter Debbie Miller and husband Sam of Hickory; grandchildren Jason Townsend of Claremont and Dena Lewis of Hickory; 3 great grandchildren, Destyne Wimbush, Allena Francisco and Rayn Lewis all of Hickory; sisters Ellen Bolick of Mooresboro, NC, Gladys Jolley and husband Bobby of Chesnee, SC; Myrtle Lane and husband John of Hickory, NC, Viola Deal of Jefferson, NC , and brothers John Burke and wife Peggy of Hickory, Raymond Burke of Duncan, SC and Glenn Burke and wife Marie of Chesnee, SC; sister-in-law and widow of Amos Burke, Evelyn Burke of Mooresboro, NC and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 2, 2018 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Mt. Hebron Baptist Church. The funeral will be Monday, April 2, 2018 at 2:00pm at Mt.
