Dee was born on August 22, 1923 in Rutherford County to the late Robert Cohen Waters and Laura Turner Waters.
As a U.S. Army Veteran, Dee fought under General George Patton, leading a mortar squad of seven men in World War II as a Staff Sergeant. He served from March 1943 to October 1945.
After his military service, he worked as an upholsterer in the furniture industry. Dee was also an avid beekeeper and gardener, growing everything from squash to sunflowers outside his home.
Dee was beloved by his family and community. He was a lifetime member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Conover.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Doris; four brothers, Charles, Bill, James, and Hoot; and four sisters, Monnie, Dess, Deanie, and Vene.
Dee is survived by four children, Mike Waters and his wife Hillary, David Waters and his wife Debbie, Melva Grabar and her husband Ron, and Janice Bolick; four grandchildren, Devin Waters and his wife Allison, Kristen McMackin and her husband David, Dia Hartsell and her husband Rob, and Robbie Venable and his wife Angie; ten great grandchildren; and three siblings, Clara Hefner, Sue Johnson, and Jess Waters. Special thanks to Teresa Taylor for her help in care for Dee.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. Richard Graff. Military Honor will be conducted by the American Legion Post 544.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:15 a.m. at the church.
