Vale – Jessie Helen Ervin Propst, 96 of Vale, NC went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at Frye Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loved ones.
Helen was born in York County, SC on April 28, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Jonas and Eugenia Adams Ervin. She attended public school in Gaston and Lincoln County. She was reared in the AME Zion Church and she made St. Paul AME Zion Church her home. She retired from Drexel Heritage after 35 years of devoted service.
She loved going to church and her church family. She enjoyed cooking and gardening. She loved to laugh and immensely enjoyed being with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Frank Elmore Propst; a son, Frank Propst Jr; a daughter, Sandra Propst Ellerbe; 2 brothers, James Roberts and Oscar Ervin; 3 sisters, Effie Harbison, Bernice Adkins and Novella Ervin.
Those left to cherish her memory, 3 sons, Bobby Propst and wife Christine, Billy Propst and wife Vivian and Gary Propst and (Edward Stewart) and a daughter, Lola Wimbush and husband Mike. She also leaves behind one loving sister, Gracie L. Ervin.
Special grandchildren that she raised, Wayne and Brandy Propst and Tammy Watts who was like a daughter to her.
A host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, November 23, 2020 at 1 PM at St. Paul AME Zion Church in Hickory with Rev. Melvin Peay officiating. Burial will follow at Southside Cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12 PM – 1 PM at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
