Grady was born June 9, 1921 in Catawba Co. to the late William Avery and Zora Griffey Allen. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Mae Laws Allen, daughter: Barbara Ann Taylor, sons: Thomas William Allen, Grady Clay Allen, Jr and baby Allen, brothers: Burl Allen, Eugene Allen and John Clarence Allen and a sister: Mae Allen Arney.
Grady was a member of Moriah Baptist Church where he was chairman of the deacons and a veteran of US Navy during WW II stationed at Pearl Harbor, member of VFW and American Legions Post #48. He was retired from Guy Fry & Sons Contractors. Grady helped build 6 local churches, Moriah Baptist Church and Faith Olive Baptist Church. Over saw building of the Siecor Building and numerous projects in the Unifour area.
Surviving are a daughter: Dale Allen Williams of Hickory, a son: Paul David Allen and wife, Dianne of Hickory and a brother: Bobby Allen and wife, Faye of Granite Falls, 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 19 great great-grandchildren.
Services will be Friday, February 25, at 4:00 P. M. at Moriah Baptist Church with the Reverends Bill Ashe and David Crump officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #48 with inurnment in Brookford City Cemetery at a later date.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 P. M. at Hickory Funeral Home.
