David Andrew Hollar, 90, passed away on Saturday September 14, 2013 at Catawba Regional Hospice—Newton following a period of declining health. David was born on January 19, 1923 in Valle Crucis to the late Roby Lee and Lucy Townsend Hollar. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Reinhardt Hollar, a brother Raymond Hollar and a sister, Addie Bentley. He was a member of Episcopal Church of The Ascension in Hickory, Navy Veteran serving in World War II on U.S. Capps Destroyer Ship and former member of American Legion Post# 16, Newton. He retired after 45 years at Hickory Manufacturing Co. Surviving are two sons, Tommy Hollar of Hickory, Billy Hollar and wife Eve of Hickory, three granddaughters, Michelle Hollar of Newton, Jennifer Hollar of Hickory, Sara Hollar of Hickory and two great grandsons. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2013, at 2:00pm at Hickory Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend John Duncan officiating. Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park with Military Honors conducted by American Legion Post # 16,Newton. The family will receive friends Monday September 16, 2013 from 6:00pm to 7:30pm at Hickory Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Catawba Regional Hospice 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658.
