Born in Avery County on January, 7, 1950, he was the son of the late Roy Alexander and Carlyne Banner Lyerly.
Carl was a talented, gifted master of many traits. In his time he worked in construction, law enforcement, truck driving, auto parts, maintenance and until the end, as a center pin in Olde Hickory Brewery’s motions. Carl grew up already eager to help his community and explore. In his early summers in the High Country, he could be found climbing high lift towers, helping to repair the ski courses. He was a free spirit, enjoying the time as a truck driver. He loved experiencing America coast to coast, and there weren’t many towns, nor people along the way, that were strangers to Carl. He was a smile and friend to all. Carl had a passion, and true creative genius for woodworking. Thousands enjoy the architecture, handmade bars and furniture that make the Olde Hickory Taproom and Olde Hickory Station feel like home. Carl was always excited to make custom pieces that still reside in so many private homes, local and a far. Carl was a loving devoted friend with well-grounded wit and humor.
He is survived by his son Steven Lyerly of Hickory; companion of many years Lori Wendt of the home; his brother Alexander Lyerly and wife Brenda of Banner Elk, and his nephew Alexander Keir Lyerly of Corpus Christi, TX.
Receiving of friends will be held Sunday, October 30, 2022 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at Hickory Funeral Home, following by gathering at Olde Hickory Brewery.
Memorial gifts may be made to Catawba County Humane Society, PO Box 63, Hickory, NC 28603.
