HICKORY – Bettye Lou Greene 84, of Hickory passed away peacefully on May 5, 2024.
Bettye was born on August 25, 1939 in West Virginia to the late Alfred and Helen Greene. Bettye was a Ridgeview Panther, Class of 1959. She was a proud veteran of the US Army who achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Bettye was a graduate of Winston-Salem State University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing. She worked at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center before retiring from Boone Medical Clinic as a Civil Service Nurse in Virginia Beach, VA. Bettye will always be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for her family. She was a member of Hartzell Memorial United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Larry Greene.
Left to cherish her memories is her niece, Dana Greene Culbreath and husband Damon; great-nieces, Shabria Culbreath, Shaliyah Culbreath; great-nephews, Damario Culbreath, Dallas Culbreath; and great-great nephew, Shai Culbreath.
Services will be private.
Bettye may be gone from our sight, but her spirit will live on in all who were fortunate to know her. A life that touches others goes on forever.
