Betty DeBorde Bowman, 86, of Hickory, NC, died Monday, July 8, 2019 at Frye Regional Medical Center. Betty was born September 1, 1932 in Elkin, NC, daughter of the late Thomas C. DeBorde and Lydia Johnson DeBorde.
Betty was a proud graduate of Mars Hill College. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and a self-proclaimed “professional volunteer”. Betty was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Hickory and spent countless hours serving her church through mission trips and the FPC prayer shawl ministry. She also dedicated decades of her life to the NY and NC Women’s Clubs, Presbyterian Women’s Club and 9+ years to the Hospice Thrift Store.
Betty had the amazing gift of making everyone she encountered feel special. She loved to travel, having visited all 50 states and even more countries. Betty was also well known for being a master cookie baker for friends and family.
Mrs. Bowman was proceeded in death by her husband, John Victor Bowman. She is survived by her daughters Karen Windate of Salisbury, NC and Leslie Lemons (Dave Lemons) of Addison, TX; four grandchildren, Lauren Doss (Brandon Doss), Collin Cunningham (Ashley Cunningham), Michael Lemons and Matthew Lemons.
A joyful Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at First Presbyterian Church of Hickory with the Rev. Dr. Whit Malone officiating. A reception will follow.
